ALTRUS is a herbicide from the “aryl triazolinone” group, which is absorbed by the roots of treated plants. It controls weeds through a membrane “disruption” process, which is initiated by the inhibition of the enzyme protoporphyrinogen oxidase, thereby interfering with chlorophyll biosynthesis, and with the consequent formation of toxic intermediates. Plants that emerge from the treated soil become necrotic and die shortly after exposure to light. It is selective for the cultivation of soy, peanuts and sunflowers, being applied in pre-emergence of the crop and weeds, controlling them effectively.
